The Horseshoe Crab: Craziest Animal Ever?

changipoint31.jpg

This is a picture of perhaps one of the craziest animals to ever roam this earth (besides the Churducken). The Horseshoe Crab is actually more closely related to spiders or scorpions, I don't remember which. There has been a strong effort to help save these animals because their shells used to be grinded up into fertilizer, but now scientists use their blood as a powerful anti-clotting agent. The female crabs can grow to be about 12 inches in diameter without the tail, so if you get a ruler and place it on the ground you can imagine how big these things get. Males are slightly smaller, I got a picture of two of them further down in the post.

Horseshoe crab fossil.jpg

This is a picture of a fossil of the Horseshoe Crab dated approximately 150 million years old, and they haven't changed at all. They are known as 'living fossils.' They must be doing something right if they haven't changed over the last 150 million years.

Crab Battle.JPG

Here's some dude getting 'attacked' by the creatures, but is actually shells of the crab creatively arranged by the photographer. I aptly named this picture "Crab Battle" if you've ever seen the Flash movie of the same name on Newgrounds.com.

Now here's two of them engaged in some hot crustecean sex.

These guys are very much real, and to tell the truth they kinda freak me out a little, which is why I consider them the craziest animal ever. Let me know what you all think, and if you got a crazier animal tell me what it is.
