Kevin and Halo 3, Internet Meme Superpost

There's a lot to pack in here, so I'll get right to it.

First, I've figured out which next-gen console is right for Kevin. This may sound presumptuous, but let me explain...

That's right, that's a fuckin Samurai Sword in Halo 3! It's some kind of easter egg!

You can only murder people with a Samurai Sword online in Halo 3 if you get an XBOX 360, so I have surmised that THAT is the next-gen console for Kev. You might be able to get more info from the blog this came from, or from the posting on digg.

Now, I found this crazy list of internet memes (originally on Digg). The following video is the only one I'd never seen before, and IMO, is the best. You should really check the full list... it's well worth it.

Lemon Demon

This is an absolutely incredible summary of mostly 1980s pop culture put together by Neil “Lemon Demon” Cicierega. The video was a breakout success on the flash animation site Newgrounds, and has been referenced in a number of parodies.

P.S. The list includes "Real Ultimate Power," a 13 year old boy's wet dream about Ninjas... hella funny. :)

P.P.S. Fuck I'm old.

The truth at last.

It has been a long time coming, but last night Burke finally confessed that she DID in fact cheat on me while she was away in Switzerland with Felix. As much as I was responsible for her mental and emotional condition at the time, she still chose to fool around with him, she instigated the encounter, and she chose not to break up with me first. She said that she regretted it after, and that she just wanted to know what it was like to fuck up and regret something. Well, I hope she got her wish.
The fact that it happened at all hurts. But what really gets to me is the fact that she lied to me so many times when I confronted her with it. She lied when I asked while she was there, she lied when she came back, and she continued to lie right up until last night. I know you are all wondering "why the hell do you need to know?" Well, had it been anyone else, I wouldn't. Burke and I split up two months ago. But when it comes to Felix, I have a vested interest, as Burke and I were STILL DATING AT THE TIME!!! I went into therapy because I have issues, but because she made me feel so stupid and paranoid for even suspecting her of cheating, I spent the lion's share of my sessions working on it. Now I come to realize that my instincts were right on, and that she just flat out lied to me. Girls are insane.
I am ok overall. I have to start the healing process all over again now, but I am ok, and now I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that I can do so much better. She isn't worth my time, and perhaps she never was. Once again I am so sorry I pushed all of you aside for her. I was stupid, and I want to make it up to all of you. Let me know how I can do this.

Something Random

I was watching "The Fifth Element" on TV the other day and a random thought came to me while the movie was playing: what kind of video game/movie technology would I like to have that doesn't exist? I ran across this topic when I was on digg.com one day (I think), and the "ZF-1" was one of the such technologies on their list. I quickly ran through some of the pieces of technology I've seen in movies and came up with a list of 3:

In no particular order, they are:

1. Lightsaber (Star Wars) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsNDXffEcPU
2. ZF-1 (The Fifth Element) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pxjnl1yuXk
3. Lightcycle (Tron) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3ODe9mqoDE

I tried to limit this list to three because I didn't want to go overboard. I'm sure I can think of other things to replace items on this list, these are just the ones that came to mind immediately. This is something random I was thinking about today while teaching. Respond if you like, I'm curious to see what you all have to say. Ninja McFear out.

New Hot or Not in the works.

Silent Hill 5

Because I have nothing else better to do at the moment, I have been watching a Podcast about the new Silent Hill game for the PS3/360. Needless to say, with the next gen hardware behind it, the game LOOKS spectacular. The environments really do look sinister, the character animation is flawlessly detailed and the reality shift animation blew me away. However, I do have some concerns.
First off, Team Silent (the crew behind the last 4 games we know and love) has handed the project over to an American company known as The Collective. Their track record isn't bad (Mark Ecko's Getting up) but it does have its blemishes (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). They were not chosen at random, several other companies competed for the chance, but the Collective put together an impressive real time demo and really sold their idea to Team Silent. However, I worry whenever a franchise changes hands. The Collective seems to be sticking to the tried and true formula, but that doesn't mean that they have whatever made those first four games special.
For example, what set Silent Hill apart from Resident Evil? The controls were the same essentially, the graphics were comparable, they both fit nicely in the survival horror genre. Yes, Silent Hill's story was distinctive, but what REALLY made it great were the character's you were forced to control. In Resident Evil, every main character is specially trained in combat, either as a cop, a mercenary, a special ops solider, you name it. But in Silent Hill, your character is the every-man. He is Joe- six pack with little more than a driver's license and a board with a nail in it between him and a really sticky, long lasting death. This really made the game more terrifying because you were confronted with really horrible things, and you are ill equipped to deal with it so you do what any of us would do... you RUN.
Which leads me to my greatest concern with Silent Hill 5: the main character is a solider. His story is he has just returned from war (which war has yet to be revealed fully) and he is in Silent Hill looking for his brother and, like it does, wackiness ensues. So now, you have a guy with full combat training and field experience running around dealing with all the nightmares, and so The Collective has created a whole new combat system, with counter moves and dodges.
I know Kevin, you are intrigued, but we all know I am a purist, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But, I am open to this change. I am really looking forward to it, in spite of my reservations. Anyway, rant over. We should chill soon.

Microsoft Cracks Down on Hackers

I was on gamefaqs.com today when I saw a link to Gamespot that said, "Halo 3 Epsilon cheaters banned until 9999 AD." I had to check this out, so I clicked the link and read the article. Supposedly there is some kind of secret testing session for Halo 3 called the "Halo 3 Epsilon Test." This was meant to be an invitation-only testing session put forth by Microsoft to work out the final bugs before they finally release Halo 3. Some kid got a mod from a friend that would allow him to hack into Epsilon, but it wouldn't allow him in. He tried to sign onto XBox Live the next day and got a message that he was banned until December 31, 9999 AD. According to him and his friends the notification from Microsoft looks legit and he is indeed banned from XBox Live at the moment. Of course, Microsoft reps didn't comment on this, and so we are left to find out the fate of this poor gamer, or "Scar" as he goes by. I thought this was incredibly funny and wanted to share it with everyone. If you want to read the article, here is the link:

Life.

Hey guys. As you know, I am single now for the first time in almost 6 years. I don't really know how to deal with it to be honest. But all I know is that I have been dealing with it alone for a week now, and I am realizing that I am not going to make it without you guys. I know that this past year I have been unavailable, and that my time seemed to be spent always elsewhere, but I tell you now that every person present at my last birthday is very important to me, and I want to be a part of your lives. I have been so wrapped up in a life I thought was solid, but I am now seeing how little of it was based in reality.
I will always love Burke, and I am still very much in love with her, but she made it clear that she is very confused, and all I was doing was confusing her more. She broke my heart and ended this relationship while she was away and didn't have the courage or the experience to just tell me. She left it to me to say what had to be said, even though it nearly killed me to do it. It was not my idea, but what is past is past. As much as I would like to, I can't change any of it.
I am only here in Sacramento for another nine months. I want to make these months count. Please, give me that chance. I look forward to hearing from you guys soon.
-Will
