Olympic Stories

So the Olympics started last week and I've watched little else on TV. This is the only time when I'll watch sports that I don't normally watch (Most of the sports in the Olympic program aren't typically broadcasted anyway), and of course there are stories which get generated and told and retold over and over again. Anyhow, I was on digg.com today and there was a link to "Olympic Stories We're Tired of Hearing." I checked it out and had heard of all of them, but I'm not necessarily tired of hearing them, I do disagree with number five on this list mostly based on this and this picture. I don't know if anyone else has watched the Olympics as much as me, so I am unsure as to how much everyone else will comprehend this list but I did find this entertaining; number one is my favorite, and I'm pretty sure number nine is true. Check it out:

Olympics Stuff

Sports I've watched during the Olympics (none of which I would watch normally): boxing, fencing, whitewater rafting, rowing, shooting, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, handball, field hockey, swimming, diving, water polo, badminton, tennis, baseball, softball, cycling, equestrian, and soccer. Many more to come...

That's a good list...

9 is totally true (come on already)

I've been watching a lot (although, probably not as much as you). Mostly Swimming, volleyball, and gymnastics.

Also, been following the Olympic news pretty closely, eg:

Girl singing opening anthem was lip syncing to an uglier girl that China decided wasn't pretty enough to represent the country.

Those girls can't possibly be 16.

China promised open internet access for reporters as one of the conditions for hosting the Olympics, but hasn't opened it up yet.

China has an agreement with all broadcasters that no one may broadcast anything negative, which applies to the following:

That weight lifter broke his elbow (crazy), and all those Chinese guys rushed out with screens so no one could see what was happening (how weird was that, turns out it's part of China's broadcast agreement).

That wrestler throws away his bronze medal...

I heard about the girl singing during the ceremonies, it's been inducted into the lip-syncing hall of shame (according to digg.com). I had first thought it was both girls singing when I heard the story, but then found out the "cuter" girl was lip-syncing. I have also heard reports of China censoring a bunch of shit during the Olympics and reporters keep dancing around the answer when asked about it, it was on the news earlier today.

Also, I so hope that someone somehow finds out at least one of the Chinese Women's gymnasts is underage.

Another interesting article regarding the age of the Chinese female gymnasts:

It kind of pisses me off that the IOC depends solely on Passports to verify age of athletes, which can be easily faked. Which this much press on the issue and their reputation on the line, I'm wondering why the IOC doesn't take more action than they have. It should be relatively easy for them to procure more official documents on these girls, and yet they take little action. We'll see what happens...

some of my comments didn't get posted, they are:

Some of my comments arn't posting and it's pissing me off.

I'm making a megapost about the Olympic controversies. It'll be up later tonight. I'm going to submit to digg and pray to the digg gods it makes front page, as unlikely as that is.

Well they've found paperwork that states that 3 of them are underage... but their passports (which is what's used to "verify" age) all state 16 or older...
