Halloween is coming soon.
A Nightmare on Elm Street in HD
Ok, I don't know about you guys, but I have always been a big horror movie enthusiast. In particular, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Hellraiser, and Nightmare on Elm Street. These were staples of my childhood and I can be oddly protective of them. However, I got the chance to see Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween last year, and i must confess, I did enjoy his new unique take on the franchise starter. As such, I have added the Friday the 13th remake to my Netflix queue and am looking forward to the nightmare remake. I also hear that Hellraiser is getting a resurrection as well. What do you guys think? Is ours the lost generation of pointless remakes because there are no new (or good) ideas left? Or is it a refreshing breath of new life into stories and scares we have come to know and/or love?

I was never a big fan of horror movies, mostly because of the nightmares that often came with them. Although since we all played through Silent Hill, we are immune to such things. Back to the point, I have to say that there are simply no new or good ideas with movies nowadays and that doesn't just apply to horror movies. Producers are making all kinds of remakes and stuff now, they are even having to resort to making movies out of comics and cartoons from the 80's. While some of these have some nostalgic value and pull from a large fan base, they are still unoriginal ideas.
Now, many of the remakes we have seen in recent years are not entirely pointless. Technology and such has advanced to a point that we are now able to see what the producer wanted to actually show us, not limited by the tools they had at the time (George Lucas with the re-release of the Star Wars trilogy is one such example). Many remakes are also delving into the back-story of a lot of old movies which answer a lot of fan questions. So to put things succinctly, it is both refreshing and a little disappointing with regards to the direction movies are going.
