Goodbye Kevin
So Kevin Imura's memorial service was today, so my mom and I went as we both knew Kevin. There were a lot of people there, as he was young and still in touch with a lot of his friends. I got to see a lot of kids who I knew while they were students at King. It was kind of funny seeing them all grown up now, but I still see them as kids.
Anyhow, it was quite a lengthy service, as there was a long slide show of Kevin's life and a lot of friends and family shared memories of him. It got me thinking about what I remember about Kevin, and I had some good memories of him as well. I'm still having difficulty wrapping my head around this whole thing, part of me still doesn't believe that he's really dead, especially since I just ran into him a couple months ago. It was an open casket service, so there was really no denying that has indeed passed on.
Perhaps I'm having trouble with this because he was so young, and I spent a lot of time with him while he was a kid. He had so much going for him, and it was all tragically cut short. I just hope his family will be able to pull through, as he was one of the youngest of the cousins in his family. I'm glad I got to pay my respects and say goodbye to a fine young man.
Sorry if I was such a downer, I got something more upbeat I've been meaning to post for a while now. I'll try to get it up in the next couple days.
Goodbye Kevin, I'll see you later.

Don't do Stupid Shit
I once knew a young boy who attended the school where I worked. He went to the after school day care program, so I knew him for a number of years before he moved on to middle school and such. Very recently I ran into him again at the Kragen Auto parts store on Florin Road, apparently he's been working there for some time and he just happened to be available to help me. We chatted for a while before I got my stuff and took off, he told me he was taking college classes (although I can't remember where) and he would have just finished his first year of college.
As far as I can remember, he was always a pretty cool kid. He was on the shorter side, but that didn't bother him. He liked to play basketball too, but was a little cocky. I just learned today that there was a motorcycle accident somewhere in Rancho Cordova last night and there was a nineteen year-old involved, but was not identified. This accident was the result of a race between said motorcyclist and a car. I remember a parent whose child was a friend of this boy told me that he drove a motorcycle, and I have seen a blue motorcycle sitting outside the Kragen when I rode by. I assumed that was his, as it was often the only one there.
I eventually found out that this young boy was involved in that motorcycle accident. He didn't survive. Now his parents are left childless, all because he did stupid shit. It's most likely that he wouldn't have even gotten anything out of the race, except some stupid ass pride to show off in front of his friends. Now ask yourself: was it worth the risk?
The lesson here people is this: Don't do stupid shit.
EDIT: Turns out that it was a bunch of motorcyclists that were racing. They were in an area that is popular for illegal street racing because it is flat and straight, as is much of Rancho Cordova. Nevertheless, don't be doing stupid shit.
